Minority in Parliament has voiced strong opposition to the approval of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as the new Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, citing his refusal to retract or apologise for derogatory comments made about former President Akufo-Addo during the latter’s final State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025.

During his vetting, Armah-Kofi Buah acknowledged that his remarks—widely seen as harsh or inappropriate—were not meant to disrespect Akufo-Addo but instead reflected the political climate at the time. Despite this explanation, he declined to apologise or withdraw his statement, a stance that has sparked outrage among members of the Minority.

While the Minority continues to raise concerns, the Appointments Committee has recommended his approval by a majority vote, setting the stage for heated debate in Parliament. The Majority is pushing for Armah-Kofi Buah’s confirmation, while the Minority remains firm in its opposition, demanding accountability for the comments made about the former President.

This development adds to the ongoing tension in Parliament, with both sides preparing for further discussions before the final vote on his appointment.
