President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah to succeed Dr. Ernest Addison as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.
Dr. Asiamah’s nomination follows the acceptance of Dr. Addison’s formal request to take leave ahead of his retirement, which is set for March 31, 2025.
A seasoned economist with over two decades of experience, Dr. Asiamah previously served as Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK, and has deep expertise in monetary policy, financial stability regulation, and economic research.
Dr. Asiamah’s extensive career at the Bank of Ghana, spanning more than 23 years, includes a proven track record of advancing sound monetary and exchange rate policies, strengthening the country’s financial system, and supporting economic growth.
