Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has nominated three prominent individuals to join the General Legal Council (GLC), a key body that oversees legal education and the professional conduct of lawyers in Ghana.
In a letter dated February 28, 2025, addressed to the Chief Justice, Dr. Ayine put forward the following nominees:
- Honourable Francis Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina
- Mrs. Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law
- Dr. Abdul-Basit Aziz Bamba, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana
This move is in accordance with the Legal Profession Act, 1960, and aims to ensure that Ghana’s legal profession maintains the highest standards of education and ethical practice.
Dr. Ayine also confirmed that the president had been properly informed of the nominations. If approved, the nominees will be instrumental in shaping policies that guide the legal field in Ghana.
In his letter, the Attorney General reassured the Chief Justice of his full support for the nominations, underscoring the importance of these appointments for the future of legal practice in the country.
