Kwame Asare Obeng, the Gomoa Central MP, known as A-Plus, has publicly changed his stance on the use of sirens by politicians to navigate traffic. Speaking on Joy FM’s “Lexis Bill,” A-Plus shared how a recent experience led him to reconsider his previous opposition.
A-Plus described a situation where he had to attend both the 92nd National Convention (Jalsa) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Gomoa Pomadze and fulfill parliamentary duties at the same time. Faced with the logistical challenge of traveling between the two events, he requested the assistance of a dispatch rider to navigate the heavy traffic.
“Please, I need you to get me out of this traffic and take me to the constituency now, then bring me back to parliament,” A-Plus recalled saying.
This experience gave him a firsthand understanding of the difficulties politicians face, especially those representing constituencies far from the capital. He highlighted the challenges of managing long-distance travel, citing the example of an MP from Paga who might need to accompany the president and return to parliament in a short time.
Having experienced the pressure himself, A-Plus acknowledged that he now better understands the need for sirens to help MPs fulfill their responsibilities effectively and plans to explain this complexity to the public.
