Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of allocating public lands to his daughter and niece for their private business ventures.

In a Facebook post on December 23, 2024, Ablakwa presented documents from the Lands Commission that he claims show Edwina Akufo-Addo and Adeline Akufo-Addo Kufuor occupying prime state-owned lands in Cantonments, Accra.

Ablakwa alleged that Edwina Akufo-Addo runs the Nsuomnam Restaurant, while Adeline Akufo-Addo Kufuor operates The Lotte, a luxury fashion outlet, on these lands. He stated that the properties in question are part of the Hausa Reserve, acquired in 1894, and should remain public assets.

The MP pointed to inconsistencies in the Lands Commission’s records, specifically regarding two certificates issued for the Nsuomnam property in 2024, which contained conflicting information. One certificate listed the land as state-owned with no registered developments, while the other referred to a private lease. Ablakwa raised concerns over the transparency of these transactions and called for an investigation into what he termed “questionable” land dealings.

Ablakwa has called on President Akufo-Addo and the Lands Commission to provide clarity on the matter, and has expressed support for President-elect John Mahama’s promise to address issues of state capture and review land allocations.

In response, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources previously dismissed similar allegations, assuring that Ghana’s public lands are secure and intact.
