Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, appointed Chairman of a five-member committee tasked with investigating suspected corruption cases, has pledged that the panel will carry out its work with honesty and impartiality.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, Ablakwa, who was selected by President-elect John Mahama, reassured the public that the committee would operate independently and fairly. He emphasized that the investigation would not be a “witch-hunt” but rather an effort to address wrongdoings within the system.
“We assure you that we will not embark on a witch-hunt. We will carry out our mandate in a very honest, impartial, and objective manner,” Ablakwa said.
The committee, which was established by Mahama just ahead of his official inauguration on January 7, 2025, aims to examine alleged corruption cases. Ablakwa, a Member of Parliament with a history of advocating for accountability, highlighted his track record in exposing wrongdoing and safeguarding public funds.
“This is not about personal vendettas,” he added. “It’s about the evidence, the documentation, and what we intercept to protect the public purse and help our country move forward.”
The committee’s findings will be forwarded to the incoming Attorney-General and the newly appointed Special Prosecutor for further investigation and potential prosecution.
This marks Mahama’s first major step in his administration’s fight against corruption before taking office.
