Accra Academy has issued a statement following the circulation of a disturbing video showing a student flogging his colleagues with a machete. The school confirmed that the student involved has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The video, which surfaced online earlier this week, shows a student wielding a machete and assaulting two of his peers. The school identified the students involved in the incident as final-year students Haleem Jibril, Ahmed Dauda, and Richard Ninsin, along with first-year student Shadad Aliu.
The victims of the attack, all first-year students, were named as Samuel Ussher, Kingsford Quayson, Stephen Oteng, and Dominic Awuku Adjei. The school stated that preliminary investigations revealed the machete was brought from the students’ homes, not sourced from the school.
The incident reportedly took place on December 17, 2024, but was not reported to the school authorities until the video emerged on social media. The school has confirmed that all students involved are day students and have been asked to stay home while the matter is under review.
The school also stated that its disciplinary committee is conducting a thorough investigation, with all relevant stakeholders to be informed of the findings in due course. The parents of the students involved have been contacted, with some providing statements in response.
