Late Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Beverly Afaglo died Saturday after a two-year battle with cancer, according to her manager, Abu Iddris. She was 42 years old.
Speaking to Ghana Weekend on Sunday, Mr. Iddris said Ms. Afaglo died at the International Maritime Hospital following what he described as a prolonged and difficult fight with the disease.
The cancer, which began as breast cancer, later spread because of what Mr. Iddris characterized as its genetic nature.
Her death was announced by her husband, musician Eugene Baah, popularly known as Choirmaster and a member of the music group Praye, in a social-media post Sunday.
Despite undergoing treatment, Ms. Afaglo continued to work on film and promotional projects while remaining active in family life, Mr. Iddris said.
“We shot projects for her while she was undergoing treatment,” he said. “She lived while doing her very best until the cancer overtook her.”
Mr. Iddris added that Ms. Afaglo had traveled to the United States for treatment and had been encouraged to remain there because of the level of medical care available. Instead, he said, she chose to return to Ghana to spend time with her children.
“She chose to come be with her kids, knowing the situation,” he said.
The family has yet to announce funeral arrangements.
