The Ada Community Chiefs Association has called on both the outgoing government and President-elect John Mahama to take immediate action following a violent attack on workers in the Bornikope area, located in Ada West Constituency.
The incident occurred on December 21, 2024, at around 10 a.m., when two men were attacked while mining salt at the community pan. The assault left the victims with injuries and resulted in the destruction of salt evaporation equipment. According to reports, the workers were targeted while on their concessions.
The Sege District Police have launched an investigation into the incident after a formal complaint of assault was filed. Authorities are working to determine the full details of the attack.
One of the victims, 49-year-old Korletey Kuglenu, recounted the attack, describing how he was beaten by several individuals. “I was hit with a stick, and when I tried to flee, another person grabbed my shirt and took my phone,” he said. “They also stole a motorbike belonging to my worker. After the attack, we sought medical attention before going to the police station.”
At a press conference, Nene Daniel Sewu III, Executive Secretary of the Ada Community Chiefs Association, condemned the assault, calling it a politically motivated attempt to destabilize the region. “Some individuals are manipulating others for their own political gain, which must be condemned,” he said.
He urged all stakeholders to adopt a non-partisan approach to resolving disputes over the Songor Lagoon, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the area. “We demand justice and stand united in our call for peace and progress for Ada,” Sewu III added.
The chiefs are calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such violence does not recur.
