Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has assured Ghanaians that there will be no chaos when Parliament reconvenes on Monday, December 16.

Afenyo-Markin’s remarks come after a recent court ruling affirmed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Majority caucus in Parliament, resolving any lingering uncertainties over the composition of the House.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has directed that the session be held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Speaking to Citi News, Afenyo-Markin emphasised that the court’s decision had put an end to the debate regarding the Majority and Minority sides. He expressed confidence in a smooth and productive session ahead.

“This Parliament will expire on January 6, 2025. The NPP is the Majority, and there is no doubt about it,” he said. “The Speaker’s pronouncement was contested, and we sought legal clarification. The court ruled in our favour, and the matter is settled.”

Afenyo-Markin further explained that the court’s interpretation confirmed that independent candidates running in the 2024 elections had not affected their tenure or their caucus affiliation, bringing finality to the issue.
