Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has formally called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate what he describes as an unprovoked assault by a uniformed officer during Monday’s “Save The Judiciary” protest.
In a petition dated May 6, the Effutu MP identified the officer in question as Constable Forson, describing him as “tall, fair, and heavily built.”
According to Afenyo-Markin, the officer struck him near the chest as he approached the entrance of Parliament House to deliver a petition—an altercation that was partially captured on video and has since stirred debate online.
“I hereby formally petition your office to investigate and take appropriate disciplinary action,” Afenyo-Markin wrote in his letter to the IGP.

The incident, which occurred during a demonstration aimed at defending judicial independence, has sparked a flurry of public commentary, with some questioning the MP’s conduct. Afenyo-Markin insists his response was a reaction to excessive force and not an act of aggression.
The lawmaker says he wants the police leadership to address the situation not just for accountability, but also to push back against what he calls “misleading narratives” surrounding the clash.
