Ghana’s outgoing Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has been awarded the prestigious “Order of the Star of Ghana – Officer Award” by President Akufo-Addo at the 2024 National Honours ceremony, held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Dr Bawumia, who served as Vice President for eight years and was the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate in the recent 2024 elections, was recognised for his outstanding public service during his tenure. He was defeated in the election by former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.

Also honoured at the ceremony was Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 elections, who received the Order of the Volta – Officer Award for his contributions to public service.

The event saw many Ghanaians from various sectors—including civil service, the military, police, judiciary, education, public health, sports, culture, commerce, and agriculture—receive national honours for their distinguished service.

The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, government ministers, and other high-ranking officials.
