Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, 3 January 2025, at 10:00 AM. The address, a key constitutional requirement under Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, will take place ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
The dissolution of the current parliament will occur on Monday, 6 January 2025, paving the way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament. Later that evening, at 11:00 PM, newly elected MPs will convene to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers, with all members-elect taking their oaths at midnight.
Parliament has issued guidelines for media coverage of the event, emphasising that accreditation is mandatory for all journalists. Media personnel will be required to display their accreditation tags throughout the proceedings. Live broadcasts and interviews will be conducted at the foyer of the Chamber Block, with space allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Media houses planning to broadcast live are advised to set up by the evening of Thursday, 2 January 2025. Stringent security measures will be in place, with all media personnel and equipment subject to screening.
