Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed confidence Friday that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will reclaim political power in the 2028 general elections, citing what he called a strong legacy of governance during his administration and that of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new NPP constituency office in Bantama, Mr. Akufo-Addo said the party’s past performance in office would serve as a critical platform for its political resurgence. “The work the NPP did during my time and during former President Kufuor’s time is enormous,” he said. “It is that legacy we will build on to win back power in 2028.”

Mr. Akufo-Addo, who left office in January 2025 after serving two terms, offered sharp criticism of the current administration led by President John Mahama, describing the state of the nation’s affairs as troubling. He called on party members to remain unified and focused as they prepare for the next electoral cycle.

“We have all seen what is happening — things are not going well,” he said. “But when we unite and do things right, I know that, with God’s help, we will reclaim power in 2028.”

The remarks come as the NPP begins early efforts to reorganize and rebrand following its defeat in the 2024 elections. Political analysts say the party will need to navigate internal divisions and rising public dissatisfaction if it hopes to regain momentum ahead of the next vote.
