Akufo-Addo Upgrades Ho, Sunyani, and Wa to Metropolises

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved the elevation of several districts and municipalities in Ghana, including Ho, Sunyani, and Wa, to metropolises.

The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGRD) confirmed the upgrades in a statement on December 4, 2024. The changes follow the ministry’s request in line with the provisions of Act 936.

The municipalities upgraded to metropolises include Ho, Sunyani, New Juaben, and Wa, while Offinso North, Brim North, and Karaga have been elevated to municipalities.
