President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has raised concerns about the future of the Agenda 111 hospital projects if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regains power in the upcoming elections. He cited the NDC’s previous criticisms of the initiative as a reason for his apprehension.
During a meeting with professional bodies in the Ashanti Region on November 25, President Akufo-Addo urged voters to reflect on the progress made under his administration and consider the implications of a leadership change. He emphasized that key projects initiated during his tenure, including Agenda 111, could be at risk of abandonment if former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC are elected.
The president reassured attendees that he is committed to commissioning several Agenda 111 projects before the end of his term on January 7, 2025. He highlighted that the Sewua Infectious Disease Centre is set to be completed and handed over for use, while the Komfo Anokye Maternity and Children’s Hospital is currently 68 percent complete. Additionally, he noted that both the Asante Akyim District Hospital and the Kumawu District Hospital have been completed.
Akufo-Addo urged the people of Ashanti to be cautious in their voting decisions on December 7, cautioning against the potential disruption of these vital healthcare projects by a change in government. “The Agenda 111 is not in their hearts,” he stated, warning that unfinished projects could remain incomplete if the NDC takes office.
