President Akufo-Addo has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect and newly elected Members of Parliament following the successful conclusion of the 2024 general elections.

In his Christmas message to the nation on Tuesday, December 24, Akufo-Addo praised Ghanaians for their role in ensuring the elections were peaceful, free, and fair. He described the event as a “monumental milestone” in the country’s democratic journey.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the president-elect and the MPs-elect, offering them wisdom, strength, and divine blessings as they prepare to lead our beloved nation,” said the outgoing president.

Akufo-Addo highlighted the elections as another testament to Ghana’s standing as a beacon of democracy in Africa. However, he also addressed the challenges that emerged during the process, notably condemning the incidents of post-election violence that marred what was otherwise an exemplary democratic exercise.

“I must condemn, in no uncertain terms, the unnecessary acts of violence that have tarnished an otherwise exemplary democratic exercise,” he added.
