Professor Joshua Alabi, Campaign Manager for John Mahama’s team, has called on the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority in Parliament to avoid simply rubber-stamping proposals from the executive.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Alabi cautioned against using the NDC’s two-thirds majority to push through proposals without proper scrutiny. He stressed the importance of the caucus using its parliamentary strength responsibly, carefully evaluating the long-term impact of decisions, and prioritising the interests of the electorate.
“Once the people decide on a two-thirds majority for the NDC, it means they want us to use that strength wisely,” Alabi said. “People expect us to use it for their benefit, not to rubber-stamp decisions from the executive.”
Alabi reminded the new Majority that, despite the power they hold, they will ultimately be held accountable by voters in the next election. He emphasised that the NDC should approach its role in Parliament with diligence, ensuring decisions are well thought out, as they could have long-lasting effects on the party’s political future.
