Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has officially inaugurated a 17-member committee aimed at revitalizing Kumawood, the region’s once-thriving film industry. With Kumawood’s popularity waning in recent years, the committee’s primary goal is to develop a strategic plan to rejuvenate the sector and create lasting employment opportunities for its players.

The committee, chaired by Bishop Ofori-Adu, includes notable figures from the industry, such as veteran actors Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah. Their task is to devise a framework that will breathe new life into the industry and restore its former glory.

At the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, March 4, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among the committee members. He urged them to work together toward the common goal of rejuvenating the industry, stressing that unity would encourage greater government support for the initiative.

“We need you to unite and collaborate,” he said. “That unity will encourage the president to put more effort into reviving the industry.”
