Gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles stormed a cocoa depot in Fomena, Ashanti Region, on Thursday evening, stealing more than GH₵1 million in cash and valuables before fleeing into nearby forests.
The attack occurred at approximately 6:20 PM at the Agro Ecom Company Limited Cocoa Depot in Adansi Ansah. According to police reports, four masked robbers also took mobile phones and other items during the raid.
Shots were fired at a GMC Terrain 2 vehicle, registered as GS 9576-22, which belongs to the District Officer. The depot manager, who was driving the vehicle, escaped without injuries.
A joint police team from New Edubiasi and Adansi Fomena has launched a manhunt for the suspects, believed to be hiding in surrounding communities. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in their capture.
Investigations are ongoing.
