Ashanti Regional Chief Imam Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun Dies at 74

Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, has passed away at the age of 74.

Family sources confirmed that the Imam died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Tuesday night following a short illness.

Appointed in 2011, Sheikh Haroun served as one of the longest-serving Imams in the region, succeeding the late Sheikh Imran Musah. Known for his role in fostering peace and unity, he played a pivotal role in resolving conflicts in the Ashanti Region and promoting the development of Muslim communities.

Among his key achievements, Sheikh Haroun led the refurbishment of the Kumasi Central Mosque and initiated several other transformative projects in the region.

He will be laid to rest at the Tafo Cemetery after “Janaza” prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque on Wednesday.

Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun is survived by two wives and six children.
