Ahead of the 2025 Budget presentation on March 11, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson met with market women and head porters, known as ‘kayayei,’ at Accra’s Makola Market to hear their concerns and expectations regarding the government’s fiscal plans.

Dr. Forson, accompanied by his deputy, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, described the interaction as a privilege and underscored the critical role that these small-scale traders play in the country’s economy. “It was a privilege to engage with these hardworking Ghanaians, who contribute significantly to sustaining our economy,” Forson said, reflecting on the discussions that centered on the challenges facing market traders.

The meeting addressed key economic issues, such as inflation, taxation, and limited access to credit—pressing concerns for many in the informal sector. Dr. Forson assured the traders that their feedback would be incorporated into the policy decisions shaping the upcoming budget. “Their expectations for Budget 2025 will play a key role in guiding our shared economic future,” he added.

The 2025 fiscal policy document has already been approved by the government ahead of its official presentation to Parliament. The approval, confirmed during a special Cabinet meeting on March 7, signals the administration’s continued focus on economic stabilization and sustainable growth.
