Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has introduced eight key bills to Parliament, aiming to scrap controversial taxes, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy) and the betting tax.
Presented on March 13, the proposed bills include the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025, Emissions Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025, and several others focused on amending or repealing existing tax policies. The full list of legislation includes: the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Revenue Administration (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Special Import Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Growth and Sustainability Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Earmarked Funds Capping and Realignment (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
In an urgent appeal to lawmakers, Dr. Forson requested that the bills be considered under a certificate of urgency to expedite the legislative process. This move is part of the government’s broader push to reduce the financial burden on Ghanaians and streamline the tax system.
