Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban S. K. Bagbin, has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his decisive victory in Saturday’s presidential election.

The announcement of Mahama’s win was made by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, who also served as the returning officer for the election.

In a statement, Bagbin expressed admiration for the trust the electorate placed in Mahama, calling the victory a testament to his courage.

“Today, we celebrate not just a victory, but a reaffirmation of our democratic principles,” Bagbin said. “John Mahama’s win is an expression of the people’s will, and I am confident that he will guide Ghana towards greater prosperity and inclusivity.”

Bagbin also urged Ghanaians to unite in support of the newly elected president. “It is now our collective responsibility to aid him in the task of nation-building,” he added. “Together, we can address the challenges ahead and ensure that all citizens benefit from good governance.”
