Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged support to the traders affected by the recent fire at Kantamanto Market, offering GH¢200,000 in aid for their recovery.

During a visit to the market, Dr. Bawumia toured the damaged areas, speaking with traders who suffered significant losses as a result of the fire, which destroyed goods and stalls. Many traders are still grappling with the financial impact of the disaster.

In his address, Dr. Bawumia expressed his condolences and reassured the traders of the government’s commitment to helping them recover. “We will investigate the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire,” he said. “I have seen that work has already started, and with the little help we can offer, we will ensure that the market is restored to a more suitable state.”

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted plans for improving security at the market, proposing the installation of CCTV cameras and an internal security system once the market is rebuilt. He assured traders that despite the administration’s transition, he would personally oversee the installation of the cameras.

The Vice President was accompanied by Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Titus Glover and local leaders during his visit.
