Benjamin Zigorsh-Nyakpenu, a seasoned lawyer with expertise in corporate and commercial law, has officially assumed the role of First Deputy Registrar of Companies in Ghana. His appointment, confirmed on March 20, 2025, aligns with the stipulations outlined in Article 195 of the Constitution and Section 363(1) of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992).
Zigorsh-Nyakpenu was introduced to the management team by Acting Registrar of Companies, Maame Samma Peprah, who expressed confidence that his leadership and extensive legal experience would enhance the operational efficiency of the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC). In her remarks, Peprah highlighted the significant role Zigorsh-Nyakpenu would play in strengthening the office’s commitment to ensuring regulatory compliance across Ghana’s corporate sector.
In a brief response, the new Deputy Registrar expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, reiterating his commitment to fostering an inclusive, team-oriented environment within the ORC. Zigorsh-Nyakpenu emphasized his approach of openness, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing to advance the office’s goals, saying, “I promise to be part of the team. Let’s see ourselves as a unit willing to work together rather than as individuals who are simply needed.”
The ORC, as the sole authority responsible for the registration, regulation, and supervision of corporate entities in Ghana, plays a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of the business environment. The office’s mission is to deliver efficient corporate registry services, ensuring both compliance and support for the country’s economic growth. As part of his new responsibilities, Zigorsh-Nyakpenu will work closely with the Registrar to oversee the office’s daily operations, enforce regulatory compliance, and implement strategies aimed at advancing the ORC’s mandate.
Mr. Zigorsh-Nyakpenu’s extensive legal background spans corporate structuring, regulatory compliance, banking and financial law, and alternative dispute resolution. His appointment marks a key moment in the continued development of the ORC, tasked with ensuring that Ghana’s corporate sector remains transparent, efficient, and conducive to economic progress.
