Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, has suggested that the Minority’s current turmoil and rowdy behavior are rooted in the shock of their defeat in the December 7 elections.

In a candid interview with TV3’s Alfred Ocansey on February 3, Ahiafor stated, “The Minority are bleeding from the election wound they suffered,” underscoring the emotional toll the loss has taken on their post-election actions.

His comments come amid ongoing tensions in Parliament, following chaotic disruptions during the vetting process on January 30. The violent scenes, which included pushing and shoving between members of the Majority and Minority, led to the suspension of four MPs by Speaker Alban Bagbin. The suspended MPs—Rockson Dafeamekpor, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Hassan Tampuli, and Frank Annor Dompreh—were accused of creating disorder when they protested the continuation of the vetting process late into the night.

The Minority has since condemned the suspension, calling it “unlawful” and accusing the Committee Clerk of partisan bias. They have demanded her removal.

Ahiafor, in his interview, attributed the disruptions to Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin’s frustration, stating, “Afenyo-Markin is acting out of frustration.” The remarks highlight the ongoing struggle within Parliament and the deepening divide between the Majority and Minority parties.
