The teenage son of Bishop Salifu Amoako has been sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Centre after being convicted of manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident in East Legon.
The teenager, who was involved in a crash that resulted in the deaths of two passengers, was initially charged with manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license. While he initially pleaded not guilty, he later changed his plea to guilty, leading to his conviction.
As part of the sentence, the court has ordered the teenager to report to probation officers every two weeks and signed an undertaking to refrain from driving until he reaches the age of 18.
In a separate ruling, the teenager’s parents were fined 500 penalty units each, amounting to GHc 6,000, for failing to properly supervise their son. Additionally, they were instructed to pay for the damages caused in the accident, including a light pole valued at GHc 8,000.
