Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, has dismissed calls for the removal of EC officials, asserting that those calling for such action lack a full understanding of the Commission’s work since 2020.

In a recent statement, Dr. Asare defended the EC’s operations, praising its transparency, cost-efficiency, and commitment to overseeing free and fair elections. He highlighted the Commission’s strong track record, stating that since its leadership took over in 2018, both domestic and international observers have consistently commended its work.

“The results are publicly available, and in terms of quality, Ghana is among the best in Africa when it comes to elections,” he said.

Dr. Asare also pointed out that the 2020 election was internationally recognised for its success, despite facing challenges in the 2024 election. He further argued that those calling for the removal of EC officials do not fully understand the Commission’s efforts.

“If anyone is calling for the removal of someone at the EC, it means they don’t fully understand the work that has been done,” he remarked in an interview with Joy News.

His comments come amid controversy surrounding the re-collation of parliamentary results in several constituencies, including Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, and others. These results, which were re-collated and declared in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have sparked debate, with the EC also suspending results for Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya.

Dr. Asare strongly defended the EC’s decisions, stressing that opposition to the Commission’s actions undermines the Constitution.
