A Brussels Airlines flight bound for Lomé returned to Accra on Monday evening after the crew detected a technical issue shortly after takeoff, prompting the airline to cancel the service.

According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Flight SN278 departed Kotoka International Airport at 6:06 p.m. local time before developing a technical fault while airborne. The crew elected to return to Accra as a precaution, and the aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The regulator said the crew followed established safety procedures and emphasized that passenger and crew safety remained the overriding priority.
The cause of the technical issue is under investigation by Brussels Airlines under the oversight of the GCAA, in line with aviation safety protocols.

Brussels Airlines subsequently canceled Flight SN278. The airline is providing assistance to affected passengers in accordance with Ghana’s Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019, which govern consumer protection.

The GCAA said the incident does not diminish confidence in the country’s aviation oversight framework, describing Ghana’s safety and security system as robust. The aircraft returned approximately 12 minutes after departure.
