Calm has been restored in Ejura, Ashanti Region, following a violent attack on the local police station earlier today.

The unrest was triggered by the death of a suspect in police custody. The man, who had been arrested on suspicion of theft on Friday evening, reportedly fell ill while detained. He was taken to the Ejura Government Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In response to the news of his death, a group of local residents stormed the police station, setting the building on fire. The mob also forcibly removed the suspect’s body from the hospital.

The Ghana Police Service, supported by the military, quickly intervened to restore order, while community leaders helped de-escalate the situation. The Ghana National Fire Service also responded to extinguish the blaze at the station.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death, as the incident has raised concerns within the community.
