Ghanaian musician Captain Planet, of the popular group 4X4, has urged the country’s music industry to offer urgent support to hiplife legend Okomfo Kwadee, following a distressing viral video of the artist in a troubled state.

In a post on February 5, 2024, Captain Planet appealed to the industry: “Ghana Music Industry Make We People Do Something For Okomfo Kwadee Before e Go Be Too Late.” His plea came after the video surfaced showing Kwadee, once known for his energetic performances and iconic hits, struggling emotionally while attempting to sing some of his classic tracks.

Radio personality Maximous Mensah, widely known as Dr Pounds, echoed similar concerns, sharing the video with a post: “What can we do paaa to help our brother?? Asem oooo so sad! Charley legend! GOD HELP OUR BROTHER.” The public response highlights the deep concern among fans and colleagues over the deteriorating condition of the once-celebrated artist.

Efforts to provide Kwadee with medical assistance have reportedly been thwarted by his family’s opposition, despite interventions from prominent figures in the music industry, including producer Abraham Ohene Djan and former hiplife artist-turned-pastor Lord Kenya.

A video from late last year, showing the artist grappling with mental health challenges, further fueled widespread calls for action.

Okomfo Kwadee, born Jerry Anaba, was a dominant force in the Ghanaian hiplife scene in the early 2000s, known for hits such as Boyz Boyz, Ofie Nipa, Meko M’anim, Yeko Mmaa Pe, Abrantie, and Ataa Adwoa. His distinctive voice and unique style earned him legendary status in Ghana’s music industry, making his current condition a matter of national concern.
