The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has called on President John Dramani Mahama to quickly reintroduce and pass the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

In a meeting with the bishops on January 14, 2025, President Mahama suggested that a government-sponsored bill would be more effective than the current private member’s version, allowing for broader consultation and national consensus. He also emphasized the importance of revising school curriculums to reinforce cultural and moral values.

Most Reverend Matthew Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, urged the government not to delay the passage of the bill, citing overwhelming public support. He added that the law could be taught in schools through civic education without diminishing its legal significance.
