Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Chair of the Ad-Hoc Committee probing the disruptions during the ministerial vetting process, has pushed back against accusations of bias from the Minority. On Friday, February 7, Bedzrah responded to claims made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who submitted a petition to the Speaker of Parliament accusing Bedzrah of impartiality breaches and compromising the integrity of the investigation.

In a statement to the press, Bedzrah firmly denied any bias, stating, “I’m not biased. You have all seen the proceedings, and we were surprised that the Minority was not here.” He expressed confusion over the allegations, noting that the committee’s work had been transparent.

Afenyo-Markin’s petition raised concerns that Bedzrah’s public comments had tainted the committee’s neutrality, but the committee chair maintained that no valid proof of such bias had been presented.

Tensions further escalated after Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, the Vice Chairman of the committee and a Minority MP, accused Bedzrah of bias. Anyimadu-Antwi announced that the Minority would no longer participate in the committee’s work. Bedzrah responded by questioning the timing of the accusations, pointing out that Anyimadu-Antwi had attended the committee’s initial session without voicing concerns about fairness at the time. “He was here with us, so I don’t understand where this accusation is coming from,” Bedzrah said.

The Chair also addressed the petition for his removal, explaining that the Speaker must first review the petition before any decisions are made. He assured that the committee would continue its work on Monday as scheduled.

Bedzrah also highlighted that Minority witnesses, who had been invited to testify, failed to appear despite previous commitments. He warned that if they do not show up next week, the committee would be forced to consider invoking constitutional and parliamentary provisions.

The growing dispute over the investigation into the ministerial vetting chaos shows no signs of resolution, as the Minority continues to allege that Bedzrah’s actions are undermining the committee’s credibility.
