On Friday, March 28, 2025, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah officially inaugurated a new board for the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). The new board will be chaired by Professor Thomas Akabzaa, with members including Nana Yaa Jantuah, Prof. Ebenezer Bugri Anarfio, Bridgeworche Barichisu, Dr. Edna Agyepong, Dr. Kwabena Nuarko Otoo (representing the Trades Union Congress), Dr. Humphrey Ayim Darke (representing the Association of Ghana Industries), and Dr. Shafic Suleman, who will serve as Secretary.

The eight-member team is tasked with overseeing and regulating the country’s public utilities, ensuring that the sector operates efficiently and transparently.

In his address to the new board, Debrah emphasized the importance of transparency in regulatory processes. He urged the members to remain dedicated to upholding the public’s interest while ensuring that the government’s goals of improving the energy sector and other essential services are met with excellence.

“On behalf of the president, I want to express our gratitude for your commitment to serve. This government is in a hurry to make significant progress, but we also understand the need for careful and precise action. We were elected to serve the people, and we must keep that at the forefront of everything we do,” Debrah said.

He added that President Akufo-Addo is keen on improving the energy sector and other critical services, urging the board to work hard to ensure the government’s success and, most importantly, the satisfaction of the people.
