Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has condemned the findings of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) regarding the controversial National Cathedral project. The commission released its extensive report on November 25, 2024, following an investigation into the management of funds for the project, which has seen an expenditure of $58 million, despite being in its early stages.
Ablakwa, who had petitioned CHRAJ for the probe, called the report “damning,” stating it confirmed significant wrongdoing by those involved in the project’s oversight.
In an interview on 3FM’s Hot Issues, he expressed disbelief that a project, purportedly undertaken in the name of the Almighty and overseen by religious figures, would yield such a scandalous outcome.
“CHRAJ’s findings have now confirmed that public funds were used, contradicting claims that this was a privately-funded initiative,” Ablakwa said. “The report exposes what appears to be a ‘trade, loot, and share’ scheme.”
The investigation has intensified scrutiny on the National Cathedral, which was intended as a national symbol but has become mired in controversy over financial mismanagement and lack of transparency.
