Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Clerk of Parliament, has called on the incoming Members of Parliament to focus on serving the interests of their constituents rather than advancing partisan agendas.
With the 8th Parliament set to dissolve on January 6, ahead of the swearing-in of the 9th Parliament, Djietror emphasised the importance of MPs prioritising their parliamentary duties. Speaking to Citi News, he stressed that once elected, MPs must address the concerns and needs of the people they represent, ensuring their work reflects the aspirations of their constituents.
Djietror reminded the incoming MPs of Parliament’s critical role in shaping national development and urged them to serve with integrity and dedication. He further emphasised that MPs should not merely reinforce party positions but work to promote policies that benefit the nation as a whole.
“Members of Parliament-elect must understand their roles,” he said. “They are not there to pursue party interests but to work for the development of the country based on the national policies outlined in party manifestos.”
