The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has firmly rejected the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment’s request to end its ongoing strike, which has been in effect since Thursday, February 20.

The industrial action is a direct protest against the continued appointment of Samuel Adom Botchwey as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

In a press briefing on Saturday, February 22, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, criticized the Ministry’s appeal, arguing that it lacked substance and violated the association’s regulations. According to CLOGSAG’s statutes, individuals with politically exposed backgrounds should not hold key positions within the civil service.

Mr. Addo explained that after careful deliberation, the national executive council had unanimously decided to maintain the strike. He further stated that the Minister’s request did not provide a clear path to resolving the issue at hand.

CLOGSAG insists that unless politically exposed persons are removed from the Civil Service and Local Government Services, it would be unjust to allow such appointments to continue.

The association’s position highlights a growing concern over the intersection of politics and public service roles, with CLOGSAG emphasizing that fairness must prevail for all civil service appointments.
