CLOGSAG to strike feb.20 over Births and Deaths Registry Dispute

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in protest over the continued tenure of Samuel Adom Botchway as head of the Births and Deaths Registry.

Despite previous assurances from the government that Botchway would be removed from his position, CLOGSAG argues that his participation in a budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on February 17 confirmed his ongoing role—contrary to prior commitments.

In a statement released by CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, the association made clear that the strike would proceed unless their demands for Botchway’s removal are addressed.

CLOGSAG has consistently voiced concerns about leadership and governance issues at the Births and Deaths Registry, which it claims have been exacerbated under Botchway’s leadership.

As of now, the government has not issued a response to the latest developments.
