Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Ghana, has issued a statement expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation following his recent removal from office. The statement, released on March 14, 2025, highlights Dampare’s deep appreciation for the support and prayers he received during his tenure, both from Ghanaians and well-wishers internationally.

In his statement, Dr. Dampare acknowledged the immense love and encouragement from the public, particularly in the 24 hours following the announcement of his dismissal. He expressed his thanks to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him to the role of IGP, which made him the youngest individual to hold the position in the history of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. He also recognized President John Dramani Mahama for their positive and productive working relationship.

The former police chief offered special thanks to religious and traditional leaders for their prayers, as well as to the heads of other security agencies for their collaboration. He also appreciated the support and feedback from civil society organizations, and extended his gratitude to the international community and diplomatic missions that engaged with his leadership throughout his tenure.

Reflecting on his 35-year career in the Ghana Police Service, Dr. Dampare expressed pride in his rise from General Constable to the country’s top law enforcement officer. He noted his distinction as the youngest Commissioner of Police and IGP in the Fourth Republic and credited his achievements to the dedication of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and all officers within the service.

Despite his dismissal, Dampare reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana, emphasizing his continued energy and dedication to serving the country with integrity. As he approaches 55, he remains steadfast in his resolve to contribute to the nation’s progress and stability.

The statement, which was signed by his Executive Assistant, Nana Osei Afrifa, marks the former IGP’s final remarks after a notable tenure in Ghana’s police force.
