Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor has been appointed the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), announced by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
DCOP Donkor, a seasoned law enforcement officer and legal expert, has established a distinguished career marked by a commitment to both policing and human rights advocacy. Her leadership extends across various sectors, most notably in football security, where she has played a pivotal role in elevating safety standards at both domestic and international matches. As Chairperson of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Safety & Security Committee, Donkor was instrumental in ensuring robust security protocols for local fixtures and continental competitions.
Her influence stretches beyond Ghana’s borders, serving as the Safety and Security Officer for the Confederation of African Football (CAF), where she is responsible for overseeing security measures during major continental tournaments.
In addition to her policing career, DCOP Donkor has made notable strides in women’s football. She is the Chief Executive Officer of Police Ladies FC, a prominent club in the Ghana Women’s Premier League, which has flourished under her leadership.
The reshuffle also saw other key appointments, including DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah as Director-General for Research and Planning and Commissioner of Police (COP) Paul Manly Awini as head of the Service Workshop in Accra.
The latest changes reflect a broader effort to modernize and strengthen the Ghana Police Service’s leadership, with a focus on enhancing security, administrative efficiency, and gender-inclusive progress within the institution.
