Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed his authorization of the recent arrest of Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Board.
The arrest occurred on February 23, 2025, at Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s residence in Kawukudi, near Nima, Greater Accra, where he was taken into custody by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for questioning in connection with financial irregularities during his tenure at the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
Ken Kuranchie, the legal representative for Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, explained that a group of men arrived in three vehicles and informed the former chairman that he was needed at the NIB. Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi voluntarily accompanied them to the NIB’s headquarters before being transferred to the agency’s Kawukudi offices in Accra.
In an interview on Monday, March 3, 2025, Dr. Ayine confirmed that he had ordered the arrest, adding that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi had been questioned about a $2 million payment made during his tenure. “He admitted that the $2 million was paid for no work done,” Dr. Ayine said, noting that the investigation into the payment and potential accomplices is ongoing.
