The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to reject the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming general election on December 7.

Addressing supporters in Saboba on Saturday, November 23, 2024, Dr. Bawumia criticised the NDC’s handling of development projects in the northern regions during Mr. Mahama’s presidency. He accused the opposition party of failing to deliver on its promises to the north and alleged the mismanagement of funds allocated to the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

SADA, a flagship initiative under the Mahama administration, aimed to boost development in the northern regions. However, Dr. Bawumia claimed that significant resources were wasted on poorly planned projects, including the controversial guinea fowl farming venture, which he mocked as a symbol of corruption and inefficiency.

“During his time, all the money, hundreds of millions of cedis given to him to develop the north, he said he was raring guinea fowls,” Dr. Bawumia said. “We asked him, where are the guinea fowls? And he said they had flown to Burkina Faso.”

The NPP flagbearer further claimed that despite the funds allocated to SADA, there are no visible projects in the five northern regions to show for the initiative. “Is there a SADA project in Saboba?” he asked the crowd, who responded with resounding disapproval.

Dr. Bawumia urged voters to consider the track records of both candidates as they head to the polls, stating: “Do you want him to come back?”

The SADA guinea fowl project has long been a point of political contention in Ghana, often cited by critics as emblematic of corruption and mismanagement under the NDC government.

Mr. Mahama is yet to respond to the latest comments from his political rival.
