Dozens of people have been injured after gunmen opened fire on a bus in Pusi-Namoo, a suburb of Bolgatanga in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
The bus, travelling from Garu to Kumasi, was ambushed by the attackers around 8:00 PM on Saturday. Witnesses report that several passengers sustained serious gunshot wounds. The injured have been transported to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga for treatment.

While the motive for the attack remains unclear, sources suggest it may be linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has escalated in recent months. The police have secured the scene of the attack as investigations continue.
The incident comes just days after a violent clash between rival factions in Bawku, which resulted in two deaths. The confrontation took place in the Kpalore-Gozesi area, where security forces arrested four individuals and seized eight assault rifles.
This brings the death toll from the Bawku conflict to 41 since it reignited in October 2024. Tensions remain high in the region, driven by a long-standing chieftaincy dispute, despite the imposition of a dawn-to-dusk curfew. Many local communities continue to experience instability, with some resorting to self-imposed isolation due to safety concerns.
