Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, has been appointed Majority Leader of Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

The decision follows a resolution by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus to retain its leadership from the previous parliamentary session. Dr Forson will be supported by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the MP for Ellembelle, who transitions from his role as Deputy Minority Leader to Deputy Majority Leader.

Kwame Agbodza, the MP for Adaklu, has been named Majority Chief Whip, continuing his key role in legislative coordination and party discipline. Ahmed Ibrahim, MP for Banda and former Deputy Minority Chief Whip, will serve as Deputy Majority Chief Whip.

These leadership changes come after President-elect John Dramani Mahama recommended Alban Bagbin, the current Speaker, to continue in the same role for the 9th Parliament. Speaker Bagbin has been seen as a unifying figure within the NDC and across the house.

The NDC’s decision to maintain its leadership team was confirmed in a caucus meeting following the dissolution of the 8th Parliament at midnight on January 6, 2025, signaling the party’s confidence in its leadership as it prepares for the challenges of the new legislative session.
