Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the Global Chairman of Groupe Nduom, has expressed optimism that Ghana’s incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President-elect John Dramani Mahama, will work towards the revival of GN Bank.
Speaking at the 30th-anniversary celebration of the Coconut Grove Beach Resort in Elmina, a key business in his conglomerate, Dr Nduom shared his hope for the bank’s future, despite its challenges.
“GN Bank has always been a people-centered institution, serving communities often overlooked by other financial institutions,” he said. “I am confident that the new administration will recognize the value we brought to the sector and collaborate with us to restore what was unfairly taken away.”
Once one of Ghana’s leading indigenous banks, GN Bank was downgraded to a savings and loans company before ultimately collapsing following a banking sector cleanup that cited multiple breaches by its management.
Dr Nduom believes that a partnership with the incoming government could lead to the bank’s revival, which he argues would not only benefit its customers but also significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth.
“Our mission was always to empower small businesses and rural communities. Restoring GN Bank would be a step towards that goal,” he added.
Reflecting on the broader challenges faced by his businesses, Dr Nduom expressed confidence in their resilience. “We have faced many challenges, but we remain determined. With the right leadership and support, we can emerge stronger than before,” he concluded.
The anniversary event, which included speeches, community engagement, and a carol night, saw Dr Nduom’s call for the bank’s restoration resonate with many attendees.
