Ghana’s largest and oldest tertiary healthcare institution, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has appointed Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective May 6, 2025.

Dr. Adam, a veteran ophthalmologist and long-serving member of the Korle Bu medical community, succeeds Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, whose tenure ended in October 2024.

The announcement, made by the Government of Ghana, places Dr. Adam at the helm of an institution undergoing a phase of strategic transformation. With a professional history at Korle Bu dating back over two decades, Dr. Adam brings continuity and institutional knowledge to his new role.

A Consultant Eye Surgeon by training, Dr. Adam has built his career around specialized care in glaucoma, cataract, and refractive surgery. He previously led the Lions International Eye Centre, a facility that, under his leadership, gained recognition as one of the top ophthalmic centers in West Africa.

Dr. Adam holds fellowships and memberships in a number of professional organizations, including the Ghana College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Turkish Ophthalmology Society. He has contributed extensively to medical literature, with several publications in peer-reviewed journals both in Ghana and abroad.

Known among peers for his clinical expertise and administrative acumen, Dr. Adam steps into his new position with a stated commitment to collaboration, innovation, and elevating standards in patient care, research, and medical training.

In a statement, hospital officials said the appointment reflects a broader effort to reposition Korle Bu as a center of excellence in healthcare delivery in the sub-region.
