Ghana’s Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that an electronic gate (E-Gate) system will soon be operational at Kotoka International Airport, allowing travellers holding a Ghana Card to bypass immigration checkpoint. The system, expected to be in place by the end of the year, will enable travelers to simply insert their Ghana Card for identity verification and gain access without needing to interact with immigration officers.

Speaking on Tuesday at an event in Twedie, in the Ashanti Region’s Atwima Kwanwoma constituency, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the benefits of the digital system, describing it as a major step forward for efficiency and convenience in travel to Ghana.

“When you hold a Ghana Card, there will be no need to stop at immigration. You just slot in your card, and if you’re verified, you’ll gain entry,” he explained.

Dr. Bawumia also spoke about his administration’s efforts to modernize Ghana’s address system. He noted that the introduction of a digital property address system had addressed longstanding issues with inconsistent and outdated addresses across the country.

“We are the first country to implement a digital property addressing system. Many doubted its feasibility, but with God’s help, we made it possible,” he added.
