A 16-year-old boy involved in a fatal accident in East Legon, Accra, has been remanded for a second time following a court appearance related to the incident, which claimed two lives.

The teenager, who is facing eight charges including manslaughter, causing harm through negligence, dangerous driving, and driving without a license, first appeared in court last Friday, where he entered a plea of not guilty. The hearing took place at the Family and Juvenile Court, which has yet to disclose the boy’s current custody arrangement under Ghana’s Juvenile Justice Act, 2003 (Act 653).

Under this law, if bail is denied, juveniles may be committed to the care of their parents, a close relative, or a suitable adult, or alternatively remanded in a juvenile facility near the court.

The case has been adjourned to November 13, 2024.

Prosecution’s Case

According to Assistant State Attorney Ebenezer Yaw Acquah, the boy had been regularly permitted by family members to drive their cars despite being underage and unlicensed.
