Ebi Bright, the National Democratic Congress’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, has been confirmed as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

In a vote held by the assembly on Friday, May 9, Bright secured 28 votes in favor against 3 opposed, clearing the path for her swearing-in by Greater Accra Regional Minister, marking her as the first woman to hold the post in the industrial city.

Her nomination stirred debate among residents, with some voicing concern over her appointment, pointing to her non-native status in Tema. Nonetheless, her confirmation signals a political endorsement from both the local assembly and the broader NDC leadership.

“I’m profoundly grateful to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has reposed in me,” said Bright in her inaugural remarks, adding thanks to assembly members and government appointees for their backing.

Outlining her policy priorities, Bright pledged to align Tema’s development with former President Mahama’s flagship 24-hour economy agenda. “It is my mission to lead Tema into a bold new chapter,” she said. “One defined by purpose, service, and love. Transforming Tema into a sustainable, industrial, economic, and social powerhouse.”

Her vision, she said, is to reposition the coastal city as a “dynamic urban hub,” with an emphasis on industrial revitalization, inclusivity, and round-the-clock economic activity.
